Why This Project Deserves the Award?
A groundbreaking contribution was made in the field of
climate change mitigation. Given
that asphalt
pavement is one of the significant contributors to climate change and global warming. A
novel
application of geothermal technology in asphalt pavement systems was introduced,
incorporating
thermoelectric generators (TEGs) and an enhanced geothermal system. The thermal,
electrical, and
structural performance of the geothermo-electrical asphalt pavement system was evaluated
through
comprehensive laboratory experiments and real-life simulations. Four high-quality papers
were
published in reputable journals, covering various aspects of the system's energy
harvesting
potential, structural performance, and implications for climate change mitigation. In
addition, a
prototype was successfully developed, showcasing the practical implementation of the
technology....The research has the potential to:
1. Mitigate the environmental impact of asphalt on climate change and global
warming.
2. Efficiently reduce the surface temperature of the asphalt pavement by 40%.
3. Invest the massive heat absorption capacity of asphalt in generation a renewable
energy.
4. Improve the structural performance of the asphalt roadways and reduce the
maintenance
cost.
