1st workshop on "PLC Wiring & Programming"

We are happy to announce the successful completion of the 1st workshop on "PLC Wiring & Programming" provided by the Renewable Energy Laboratory at the Prince Sultan University. The participants had the chance of hands-on training using Schneider PLC Modicon M241. During the workshop, we have done an overview of PLC components, applications and major manufacturers worldwide and we learned the basics of ladder logic, which is the most common programming language of PLC. At the end of workshop, the participants have been assigned to design a ladder logic for two floor elevator as a practical application on the studied concepts. It was a pleasure to have participants from different disciplines such as electrical engineering, computer science and physics. It was enjoyable time and we are very enthusiastic for conducting future workshops and trainings.

HOW TO UPDATE PLC FIRMWARE?

An important process when dealing with PLC (and may pieces of hardware in general) is to update the installed firmware to cope with new versions of programming software and also to keep it compatible with newly developed modules. This process also known as "firmware flashing" and it is often required when PLC is programmed for the first time. This video is a complementary part of the PLC workshop organized by the Renewable Energy Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Dhafer Almakhles, SMIEEE and explains how to update firmware for Schneider logic controller Modicon M241 using the "Ecostructure Machine Expert" software by Schneider electric. Hope this could be useful for PLC users.
