General Recognitions for Outstanding Researchers

Overview

At the Research and initiatives Center (RIC) of Prince Sultan University, we are deeply committed to fostering an environment of innovation and recognizing the invaluable contributions of our researchers. With this in mind, we are excited to introduce our General Recognitions initiative. This initiative has been established to honor and celebrate researchers who have demonstrated exemplary achievements and have made a profound impact in their respective fields.

Categories of Recognition:

  • The Stanford 2% of the World's Most-Cited Scholars: it aims to recognize researchers who have achieved outstanding research excellence and recognition globally. Specifically, this recognition will be awarded to researchers cited in the top 2% of the world's most-cited scholars list published by Stanford University.
  • The Web-of-Science 1% Most-Cited Scholars: it aims to recognize researchers listed in the top 1% most cited researchers and cited for their exceptional research work in the Web-of-Sicence. The Web of Science is a widely recognized platform for scientific research and scholarly publications. The scholars selected for this category have demonstrated outstanding research productivity and significant contributions to their field of study.
  • Above Ten Published Papers: It aims to recognize researchers who have published more than 10 research papers in top-tier academic journals will receive this recognition. The Scopue database will be used as a data source. Faculty members and researchers must ensure they have PSU affiliation in the Scopus databases.
  • Best Five Pure Research Lab Papers: It aims to recognize researchers who published the best pure research lab papers regarding impact factors. The RIC database will be used as the data source for the journal's impact factor.

Our recognitions are designed to cater to various forms of research brilliance and encompass a range of categories, ensuring all aspects of research excellence are acknowledged.

Nomination & Selection Process

There's no need for researchers to submit an application or nomination for these recognitions. We understand that true impact often speaks for itself. The Research and Initiatives Center (RIC) uses a comprehensive approach by evaluating scholarly contributions through established databases such as Scopus and other reputable publishers.

Our selection committee regularly monitors these databases to identify researchers from Prince Sultan University who have achieved notable citations, produced high-impact publications, or made significant contributions to their field. The committee conducts thorough reviews on a periodic basis to ensure that deserving researchers are duly acknowledged for their groundbreaking work.

Protection of Intellectual Property Award

Overview

This category aims to recognize faculty members and researchers who have demonstrated proactive efforts in protecting their inventions and innovations through the Saudi Authority of Intellectual Property via the IP Office. Intellectual property (IP) protection ensures the safeguarding of novel ideas, inventions, and research outcomes. By obtaining IP rights, researchers not only gain legal protection against potential infringements but also emphasize the novelty, utility, and potential impact of their work. Recognizing and rewarding such efforts can further promote a culture of innovation within the institution, inspiring more researchers to ensure their intellectual assets are adequately protected and commercialized. The RIC acknowledges the significance of IP rights and seeks to motivate faculty members to actively participate in securing them for their innovative solutions and inventions.

AI for Sustainable Societies Award

Overview

At the Research and Initiatives Center (RIC) at Prince Sultan University, our unwavering commitment lies in nurturing a culture of innovation and recognizing the priceless contributions of our researchers. With this steadfast dedication, we are delighted to introduce a new and prestigious initiative - the "Best Research and Innovation on AI for Sustainable Societies Award" at Prince Sultan University (PSU). This accolade is poised to celebrate and acknowledge groundbreaking research and innovation at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and sustainability principles, resulting in ingenious solutions tailored for contemporary societies. Awarded on an annual basis, the selection criteria will prioritize originality, societal impact, and the practical application of the research. The laureate will be presented with a certificate of achievement and a substantial monetary incentive. This platform will empower and embolden PSU's AI2S researchers, encouraging them to showcase their invaluable contributions and fostering the continuous development of AI-driven solutions dedicated to the betterment of sustainable societies.

The Significance of the Award

The convergence of AI and sustainability is pivotal in addressing complex societal challenges and building resilient communities. This award underscores PSU's commitment to developing AI solutions rooted in sustainability, ethics, and societal impact. It acts as a guiding light, encouraging researchers to integrate AI technologies with sustainability goals, ensuring long-term societal benefits. PSU positions itself as a pioneering institution, championing the fusion of AI and sustainable initiatives.

Eligibility Criteria
  • The award is open to all faculty members and researchers at Prince Sultan University.
  • Submissions should be original research conducted within PSU's labs.
  • Collaborations are acceptable, with external PSU members constituting less than 25% of the team.
  • The work can range from research papers, AI algorithms, sustainability-driven AI solutions, and patents, to any innovative work falling under the AI2S umbrella.
Submission Requirements
  • A video presentation (max 3 minutes) detailing the AI and sustainability aspects of the work.
  • A 1-page brochure encapsulating the project's essence.
  • Additional supportive documents: research papers, patents, algorithms, etc.
  • Online form submission is mandatory for application.
Evaluation Criteria

Submissions will be evaluated by three external reviewers based on:

  • RIC will initiate the award application process by announcing the submission period via various communication channels.
  • Applicants will submit their contributions through an online form.
  • A committee, formed by RIC, will assess all entries based on the stipulated criteria.
  • The top three submissions will be rewarded, with each recipient being acknowledged during an annual ceremony.
  • Monetary prizes will be presented to the winners by the President of the University.
Award Application Life Cycle
  1. RIC will initiate the award application process by announcing the submission period via various communication channels.
  2. Applicants will submit their contributions through an online form.
  3. A committee, formed by RIC, will assess all entries based on the stipulated criteria.
  4. The top three submissions will be rewarded, with each recipient being acknowledged during an annual ceremony.
  5. Monetary prizes will be presented to the winners by the President of the University.
Monetary Prize Policy

The winners will be officially acknowledged during PSU's annual ceremony, wherein their innovations blending AI and sustainability will be highlighted.
