RESEARCH FELLOW PROGRAM

OVERVIEW

The Research Fellow program at PSU is an important recognition of the collaborative efforts of researchers who have established a mutual relationship with the PSU lab. It is crucial that the program is used appropriately and ethically to ensure that it continues to benefit the research community.

DEFINITION

A PSU Research Fellow is a researcher affiliated with another University and works officially in collaborating in producing research publications with Prince Sultan University, remotely.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The research fellow is selected by a lab leader based on the requirement of the lab and the mutual interest to collaborate. The research fellow must have a good publication record and has high potential to provide an added value with this collaboration.

The research interest of the candidate must be compatible with that of the research lab with whom it will be affiliated.

RANK

The Research Fellow could be a faculty member (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor) or a researcher (e.g. Postdoc, Senior Researcher, …) affiliated with another University.

RECRUITMENT

If the candidate satisfies the criteria above, the lab leader should submit a recommendation letter for recruitment of the research fellow along with his CV.
The recommendation letter should provide clear justification for the need for the recruitment of the candidate as a research fellow. In addition, the letter should specify the expected duration of the contract.
The recommendation letter should be approved by the dean of the college. The dean of the college should submit a request letter through RIC to the President’s office for approval.
Once the recruitment is approved by RIC, and then by the President’s office, the contract is signed with the candidate.

DUTIES

  • Co-author research publications in collaboration with the lab under supervision of lab leader.

  • Conduct research in collaboration with the lab.

  • Provide at least one seminar/talk/presentation per semester to the faculty members or researchers at PSU.

  • Contribute to the activities of the research lab.

  • The Research Fellow must be regularly aware of research incentives and publications policies adopted by PSU and any update of these policies.

  • Any publication produced by the Research Fellow, within the context of this contract, must have PSU affiliation as an affiliation of the Research Fellow.

BENEFITS

The Research Fellow will be paid according to the PSU bylaws of publications incentives and publications fees, with the following terms:

    If the Research Fellow published with at least one PSU faculty member:

  • The distribution of incentives applies exactly the same as any faculty member according to PSU-RIC bylaws. To apply for publication incentives, please coordinate with your PSU collaborator to apply in your behalf. The deserved amount will be sent directly to your international bank account shared in the contract signed.

  • The incentives are granted for any journal paper whose submission date is within the active contract duration.

  • The publication fees of any joint paper are only paid by a local PSU author (not by the Research Fellow).

If the PSU Research Fellow publishes alone without involving a PSU-affiliated author, no fees or incentives will be paid.

The candidate is considered as a member of the lab with whom he is affiliated.

DURATION

The contract shall be for a period of 12 months from the date of signing the contract.

DISCLAIMER

  • The candidate must make sure that being a PSU research fellow does not conflict with his contract at his University and that he is legally allowed to join such the PSU research fellow program.

  • The research fellow program does not imply in any means that the research fellow is a PSU employee, but rather a remote collaborator.

OUTCOMES & EVALUATION

  • Number of ISI/Scopus papers.

  • Number of conducted research activities.

OUTCOMES & EVALUATION

  • The lab leader should upload the Contract Scan in this form after being signed by all parties.

  • The start date of the contract is the university president's signature date. And the end date of the contract is as per the Fellows Program MEMO announced.

  • The Research Fellow is counted in the Number of PSU Authors as their affiliation should appear in the paper as affiliated to PSU. Therefore, the distribution of incentives applies exactly the same as any faculty member according to PSU-RIC bylaws. The publication fees of any joint paper are only paid by a local PSU author (not by the Research Fellow). And if the PSU Research Fellow publishes alone without involving a PSU-affiliated author, no fees or incentives will be paid.

  • The incentives are granted for any journal paper whose submission date is between the start and end date of the contract.

  • In the incentives form, the "Faculty Name" field should represent the Research Fellow's name when applying for incentives on his/her behalf from the lab leader's side. And In the "PSU Employee ID Number" field, the lab leader can insert "0".

  • Please make sure to share the latest bylaws of publications fees and incentives with the research fellows to be aware of any new rules so they can adjust accordingly.

  • Having the Acknowledgment of PSU on the collaborated papers with research fellows is mandatory as mentioned in the new bylaws of 2023.
