Dr. Moustafa M. Nasralla to Deliver Lecture on Smart Transportation and Urban Mobility The Smart Systems Engineering Laboratory (SSEL) at Prince Sultan University is proud to announce that Dr. Moustafa M. Nasralla, Lab Leader of SSEL and Chairman of the Communications and Networks Engineering Department, has been invited to deliver a distinguished lecture at the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) on 9 September 2025. The lecture, titled: “Transforming Urban Mobility: Smart Transportation in the Era of Smart Cities” will address the integration of smart technologies, data-driven solutions, and intelligent infrastructure that are reshaping modern transportation systems. Dr. Nasralla will highlight innovative strategies for enhancing traffic efficiency, sustainability, and safety, while emphasizing the crucial role of communications and networks in building the smart cities of the future. This event is open to faculty, students, researchers, and industry professionals with an interest in the convergence of transportation, smart technologies, and urban development.

Dr. Moustafa M. Nasralla named in Stanford/Elsevier “World’s Top 2% Scientists

Dr. Moustafa M. Nasralla, Head of the Communications and Networks Engineering Department and Leader of the Smart Systems Engineering Laboratory, has been listed in the 2025 update of the Stanford–Elsevier “World’s Top 2% Scientists” database, a global ranking based on a standardized composite citation indicator across 22 fields and more than 174 subfields. The 2025 release (using an August data freeze) was published on 19 September 2025 in the Elsevier Data Repository and led by Prof. John P. A. Ioannidis of Stanford University. The database widely used to benchmark scholarly influence combines metrics such as total citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted indices, and authorship position to identify top performers in both single-year and career-long categories. This recognition underscores Dr. Nasralla’s sustained scholarly impact and builds on PSU’s previous appearances in earlier editions of the list.

Dr. Maged Abdullah Esmail named in Stanford–Elsevier “World’s Top 2% Scientists”

Dr. Maged Abdullah Esmail, an Associate Professor in the Communications and Networks Engineering Department and a member of the Smart Systems Engineering Laboratory, has been listed in the 2025 update of the Stanford–Elsevier “World’s Top 2% Scientists” database. The 2025 dataset, compiled by Prof. John P. A. Ioannidis and released via the Elsevier Data Repository, ranks scientists using a standardized composite citation indicator across 22 fields and more than 174 subfields. The Stanford–Elsevier list is widely used to benchmark scholarly influence, and its methodology and rationale are documented in peer-reviewed publications and institutional summaries. SSEL Member Dr. Sohaib Bin Altaf Khattak Conducts Training on Raspberry Pi for CME Students

On October 12, 2025, Dr. Sohaib, a distinguished member of the SSEL, delivered an insightful training session on the fundamentals of Raspberry Pi to the Communications and Networks Engineering (CME) students. The session aimed to enhance students' understanding of this versatile technology and its applications. Dr. Sohaib's expertise and guidance provided valuable insights, enriching the educational experience for all participants. Programming formed a crucial segment of the training, with a focus on Python basics and script execution on the Raspberry Pi platform. Understanding GPIO pins and interfacing with external devices were emphasized to broaden students' project possibilities. Smart Systems Engineering Lab Hosts Exciting SUMO Robot Competition

The Smart Systems Engineering Lab (SSEL) at the College of Engineering hosted SUMO robot competition, led by Dr. Moustafa M. Nasralla. The event, held in Building 104, featured participation from notable university figures. The competition aimed to enhance students' robotics and programming skills through workshops and training sessions. Awards were given for top positions and special categories, totaling 8000 SAR.

On Wednesday, 27 March 2024, Smart System Engineering Lab (SSEL) was invited to the grant distribution ceremony organized by the Research, Development, and Innovation Development Authority (RIDA) and awarded the prestigious RDIA grant for lab activation. The Lab Head, Dr. Moustafa Nasralla, and the lab team attended the grand ceremony to celebrate the RDIA Grant recipients. A Hands-on Arduino Training For Beginners.

Embark on a dynamic two-day training program tailored for beginners. The training starts by explaining the differences between Microcontrollers and Microprocessors, paving the way for the exploration of Arduino. Participants will gain hands-on experience setting up their computers for Arduino programming, utilising Tinkercad for virtual projects, and engaging in practical exercises with LEDs, Sensors, Switches, and Buzzers. This professionally crafted curriculum covers essential topics such as Arduino programming concepts, Analog and Digital signal distinctions, and connecting external sensors. Elevate your skills in a supportive learning environment, ensuring a solid foundation in electrical engineering programming.

High School Students Visited SSEL

High school students visited the Smart System Engineering Lab (SSEL) on 23 and 24 January, 2024 to see the research activities of SSEL members. Dr. Haleem Farman, Dr. Moustafa M. Nasralla, Dr. Maged Abdullah Esmail, Dr. Ahmad Sedik, and Dr. Mehr E Munir presented their current research. The students showed great interest in the Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) and drone projects.

The Smart Systems Engineering Lab (SSEL) successfully hosted a Soldering/De-soldering Practice Workshop on 28 February 2024. Dr. Mehr E Munir delivered the workshop, which provided participants with hands-on experience and practical knowledge in soldering and de-soldering electronic components. The workshop covered fundamental techniques, safety precautions, and troubleshooting methods. Participants were able to practice soldering components onto circuit boards and learn various de-soldering methods using tools such as de-soldering pumps. In the end, Q&A allowed for valuable discussions and clarification of doubts.
